English Curriculum

Casile is chairman of the Department of Painting and Visual Education at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, as well as professor of Watercolour and Drawing at the Primo Levi University of Bologna. For several years, he has offered drawing and painting courses to the public at his studio in Via delle Belle Arti Calabrian by birth, Bolognese by adoption, he attended Fine Arts Academies in Reggio Calabria, Bologna, New York, Paris, London, and Philadelphia. As a pupil (of Giuseppe Marino in Reggio Calabria and of Giuseppe Milesi and Emilio Contini in Bologna), he won the Lubiam Prize of Mantua three times in a row (the only artist to do so in the history of the Prize). The Lubiam, open to pupils from all of Europe's Fine Arts Academies, is Europe's most important and prestigious painting prize. The judges were Aligi Sassu, Corrado Cagli, Renato Guttuso, and Gustave Singler. In 1982, he won FIRST PRIZE in California in a show entitled "The Horse," open to young artists from all over the world. As an Academy pupil, he was always among the first three in the 33 exhibitions in which he took part (21 FIRST PRIZES, 8 SECOND PRIZES, 4 THIRD PRIZES).

 To date, he has held more than 100 one-man shows in public and private galleries, Cultural Departments, Cities, Provinces, Regions, Cultural Institutes and Consulates in Italy and abroad, and many of his works may be found in New York, Philadelphia, Jenkintown (Pennsylvania), Paris, London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, Boston, Princeton (New Jersey), Montreal, Munich, Vienna, Polanica Zdròj (Poland), Adelaide, and Jaroslavl (Russia).Demetrio Casile is also a successful screenwriter. In 1986, he won the Solinas Prize for best original screenplay with "UN RAGAZZO DI CALABRIA," directed by Luigi Comencini (Gold Lion, Venice 1987) and featuring Gian Maria Volontè, Diego Abatantuono, Giada Desideri and Therese Liotard. In 1992, he wrote the screenplay for the film "HERO OF NECESSITY," with Dustin Hoffmann and Geena Davis, a dispute that finished in court. 

He has worked with directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni, Wim Wenders, Squitieri, Bolognini, Comencini, and Tessari.His first novel, "ATTORNO ALL'ALBERO LA STUPIDITÀ," was published by Lo Scarabeo in 1993. In 1997, he wrote and directed "TRA SCILLA e CARIDDI," produced by Fulvio Lucisano and distributed by Italian International Film. The film was seen in cinemas all over Italy in 1998. Casile has competed in track and field events for many years, and has often been a member of the world-champion Carabinieri team from Bologna. Trained by Olympic coach Vittorio Visini, he has taken part in many Italian and international 20- and 50-kilometre footraces. He is currently an FIGC soccer referee at the AIA section of Bologna.
